When a wealthy Brazilian businessman in his seventies needed help to protect his assets in preparation for passing them on to the next generation, he naturally turned to Private Wealth Management. After all, he has been a Deutsche Bank customer since the mid 1980s.

The Situation - Client could withstand more risk

Our client’s prime motivation was to protect and consolidate his wealth for inheritance, but this had led him into conservative investment preferences. His wariness of capital market possibilities saw him passively invested in local fixed income securities.


 

Our Advice - Explore capital markets and inheritance trusts

His dedicated Relationship Manager met with the client and his heirs to discuss matters. The Relationship Manager reviewed the client’s asset allocation with him, providing a detailed risk-return analysis. Together they found a solution that would yield higher levels of return than the client was used to – yet with sound diversification. We also explored how trust structures might be the most effective way to handle the family’s inheritance issues.

What Changed - Moving into new investment vehicles and new investments

We set up three separate trusts – one for each of the client’s two heirs - together with an offshore trust to secure his business and personal interests in the optimum fashion for inheritance. The client agreed with our investment recommendation, by moving out of his local fixed income securities into more dynamic international products.

The Outcome - A more secure future all round

With his assets performing better, his low risk maintained, and his inheritance situation properly addressed, our client is a much happier man. He has come to appreciate the possibilities of capital markets, and he understands the risk / reward relationships in the new products we found for him.
